Evaluation Protocol for the Foreign Accent Modification Program

Evaluation Protocol for the Foreign Accent Modification Program

An extensive individual evaluation is given to participants initially to determine the specific speech and language issues that are affecting the client’s communicative success. This in-depth process includes formal and informal testing measures, analysis, documentation and communication of results and recommendations. Specific attention is paid to finding patterns of errors with:

  • Pronunciation of vowels and consonants
  • Syllable stress and intonation patterns
  • Rate of speech
  • Ability to hear subtle differences in the sounds of American English
  • Grammatical errors

Audio recordings are utilized. Additionally, client needs and goals related to the workplace are discussed.

The comprehensive evaluation takes approximately 1½ hours. Expert analysis of recorded speech and communication will be completed prior to the first training session. Results are provided in writing to the client and (if applicable) a workplace contact/supervisor.
